The survey data facilitated by Progressive Shramik Manch reveals extensive registration figures under the Building and Other Construction Workers Act (BOCWA) across various districts, with Jharsuguda leading at 27,830 union members registered and 22,755 under BOCWA, followed by Nuapada and Sundargarh. Detailed analysis of domestic workers in Jharsuguda Municipality highlights the presence of thousands of both skilled and unskilled workers spread across multiple villages and slums such as Badheimunda, Babupada, Purunabasti, and others, with female workers notably outnumbering male workers. Monthly wages for domestic workers vary across localities, generally ranging between INR 1,000 and 4,500. A skill survey of construction workers in Jharsuguda and Sadar Block, conducted by student volunteers, provides insights into workforce demographics, emphasizing the need for further support and welfare initiatives for these sectors. These data points collectively underscore the critical scope of unionization and formal registration efforts essential for the protection and welfare of construction and domestic laborers in the region.
