National Alliance of Independent Labour Unions (NAILU) Memorandums
The National Alliance of Independent Labour Unions (NAILU) has submitted several important memorandums to the Government of India outlining urgent concerns of vulnerable worker groups and calling for immediate policy and legislative action. They highlight the plight of millions of home-based workers—artisans, weavers, and informal industrial workers—who contribute significantly to India’s economy but lack legal recognition and social security protections. NAILU also stresses the critical need to implement the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, pointing out failures in constituting committees and protecting vendors from eviction and harassment. Additionally, they raise pressing challenges faced by domestic workers, especially women, who suffer from poor working conditions, lack of legal protection, social security exclusion, and barriers to unionization. Beyond labor issues, NAILU emphasizes the global significance of peace and unity through a call to Nobel Laureates to lead a worldwide peace movement, advocating dialogue, justice, and reconciliation. Together, these memorandums underscore the urgent need for recognition, protection, and empowerment of informal and marginalized workers, along with a broader vision for social peace and justice.
